Recent years have turned the Soraya variety into one of the most sought after and preferred potato varieties throughout Europe, including in Bulgaria.
Soraya is a relatively new mid-early variety of the company Norika, selected to meet the modern needs of consumers and producers and the market in general.
It combines exceptional taste qualities, an oval shape and a rich yellow color that does not change after heat treatment. The skin is smooth and gives an attractive appearance. Soraya is suitable both for the fresh market and for processing into various semi-finished products.
The variety is suitable for growing both in countries with a typical temperate continental climate and in countries with a warmer and drier climate, which determines its wide application. The plant is medium-tall to tall and forms a large mass of foliage. The growing season lasts about 90 days after germination. Soraya usually blooms profusely with white rich flowers. The variety is resistant to both types of cyst nematodes, potato canker and shows good resistance to the main viruses. The variety has good resistance to scab and rhizoctonia.
One of the most important prerequisites for the popularity of Soraya is the yield, which with adequate cultivation varies between 50-60 tons per hectare. In addition, it has a very good storeability and can be stored for up to 8 months if stored properly.
It is precisely all the listed qualities that make the Soraya variety a valuable and preferred variety by producers and consumers and outline its great future.
